Further, nurse leaders will also promote the enhancement of planning efforts using the performance improvement planning microsystem. Both the nurse educator and nurse leader play a role in the improvement of nursing intervention. However, nurse educators do this in class and at the policy level while nurse leaders do this at the implementation level.
Health Care Administration Nurse educators also play a role, albeit limited in health care administration. They may help the health care administrators with the implementation of current research and standard of care in the clinical setting (DeNisco & Baker, 2016).

 

 

Nurse leaders directly participate in health care administration. They directly guide and directing their colleagues and taking care of their welfare (In King & In Gerrard, 2016). This directly impacts the health care administration. They also participate in policy-creation, which is an administrative function. Thus, the role of nurse educators in health care administration is collaborative, However, that of nurse leaders is distinct as they directly take part in some of the administrative functions by virtue of their position.
Informatics Informatics is another area in which nursing educators are a great pillar. This is because educators, through the numerous researches they conduct, disseminate pertinent nursing information via the information management and analytical science informatics they employ.

 

 

For nurse leaders, establishing IT systems capable of delivering safer patient care remains an important responsibility. They also leverage informatics to provide support to leaders and managers within their setting of operation.

 

. Both the nurse educators and the nurse leaders utilize informatics in their respective areas of practice. For nurse educators, informatics is a tool for improving the quality of their research. Contrarily, nurse leaders use informatics as a tool for improving patient safety, in addition to coordinating leadership roles.

 

Business/Finance As part of the leadership of the academic sphere and research of the hospital, nurse educators will require financial management. This allows them to plan properly for the implementation of various programs and research projects within the financial capabilities of the setting. Nurse leaders require financial management skills as they are essentially departmental heads. As such, they will use this knowledge to ensure that even as they pursue patient safety and quality outcomes, the financial position of the company is respected. Both nurse educators and nurse practitioners require business/financial management knowledge to run the operations of their respective units.
Specialty (e.g., Family, Acute Care)  

Nurse educators teach students within their specialties. The specialties may include family care, acute care, and psychiatric disciplines among others. Research reveals that this is as a result of the requirement of state boards.

CNL certification may be regarded as an advanced credentials for APRNs or RPNs. However, it does not have a formal specialty. In other words, not formal nurse leadership subspecialties exist yet nursing schools can use varied languages in program names.

 

Thus, whereas nurse educators require specialization and work within their specialization, nurse leaders do not have these designations. The difference may be influenced by their job descriptions since nurse leaders exclusively impart knowledge, which may require fundamental and extensive understanding of concepts. Nurse leaders, on the other hand, deal with people from different specialization, making it pointless for them to specialize.
Regulatory Bodies or Certification Agencies That Provide Guidance or Parameters on How These Roles Incorporate Concepts Into Practice Nurse educators must have certification from the nursing body known as AACN. The licensing of members of these profession is overseen by the Board of Directors from each U.S. state.

 

Nurse leaders must have an active RN license as well as CNL certification. The management of the certification occurs via the RN and the AACN licensure through the Boards of Nursing of various states. Thus, the commonalty between nurse educator licensure and the nurse leadership licensure entails the fact that the Board of Nursing of ech state participate in the process. In addition, AACN also plays a role in both of them.
