Lying is always incorrect.

Lying is always incorrect.

Lying is always incorrect.

Lying is always incorrect.

Your initial response to the discussion question should be 100 words.

In talking to your spouse lying can ruin a relationship. Governments will use lying as a means to justify the ends of their agenda. This conversation is a difficult one to take though, as an argument CAN be made FOR lying. If you are trying to get Intel from a captured target, you can lie to get them to cooperate. Someone would be more willing to help you if you told them you had their family or you have black mail on them. Ultimately however, my belief is that lying is wrong not just because it is unmoral, but because there are other ways to find the answers you seek. Having meaningful conversations or making deals that benefit both parties can yield the same results.

I believe that it is all relative to the given situation, but the truth normally will always be better in the long run. For instance, lets say your friends have gotten into trouble where only you knew the secret. You should encourage them to tell the truth because that will hold more benefits then if they eventually where to get caught. I have stated that I am a person who gets caught up by guilt. I believe that the truth will set me free in most, if not all of the time. If I start lying, it will eventually take over me and I feel horrific about it. Telling the truth should always be the first option when you get into a predicament because the consequences will suck but it will be better than the consequences when someone figures out later. I think you should always tell the truth.

I believe the majority of time it is very wrong to lie. Lies are usually meant to keep secrets that could hurt someone and there for it is wrong. I can understand how sometimes lies could have an overall benefit for peoples happiness if you are lying to save someones feelings. For example, if your spouse says something like they don’t look good sometimes you lie to make them feel better. We know that sometimes people have days where they say they aren’t having a good “hair day” but that doesn’t mean that we can’t be kind and let them know that their outfit/hair is fine even if we think otherwise. Anyways who are we but one opinion and someone else might think their hair or outfit looks really nice. Wanting to make someone happy and not offend them is sometimes a good reason to fib. I do think that a truly honest person would kindly tell the truth and explain their reasoning. I understand that even very honest people will try and make individuals happy by fibbing, telling a small lie. When it comes to issues of the law or doing very wrong things it is never okay to lie. Individuals should deal with the consequences of doing bad things.

What comes to mind when I read this and with UFOs in the news. I would say yes, this maintains social norms and prevents panic. I forgot what movie it was said that the single human is smart but humans are together they are panicky and unstable. So in this instance if there was an encounter with extraterrestrial life on this planet would it be better to come forward with this news or lie? I would say better to cover it up but like everything the government does there will be a leak.

I am in the camp that believes animal rights should be a priority when making decisions that involve them. We may not be able to communicate properly with our pets or wild creatures, but does that give us the right to have them hurt or butchered for our gains? I was at one point vegan and believe it is very manageable for all of us to switch over, saving countless animals and saving them from unnecessary torture and death. Anything that is living has a right to live their live without pain or discomfort and should be respected accordingly as a result.

R6

Plants feel pain. Plants know when they are being eaten and some will change flavors others make different smells. Biology eats biology. A major issue with the world today is people don’t know there their food comes from. With that being said animals do deserve respect. Great research has gone into making animals feeling comfortable at the slaughter house. Granted this is done to produce a better quality product. The one argument I can’t stand is the anti-hunting argument from someone who eats meat. When I shoot a animal I want it to be dead before it hits the ground. I feel bad if I make the animal suffer. There is remorse for taking that animals life. I treat the animal with the upmost respect. The meals that I make with it will be enjoyed by my family, friends, and I.

Utilitarian Points of View

In reference to laws, there are certain decisions that could effect animal whether they are domesticated or wild. I do not want to offend anyone, but the following statement is purely my opinion. In a situation where there is a limited amount of time, the initial thought should be the pleasure and pain of humans. On the other hand, I do agree that animals and even the environment should be a concern in decision making.

I agree when it comes to everything except for the animal rights activists that don’t want meat to be consumed because they think an animal life is more important than a hamburger. I believe that animals should be treated humanely. People should never just torture or neglect an animal because it is just that, an animal. It is wrong and since animals can feel pain it is terrible to think of what they would be going through. The animals that are basic food sources for individuals though I agree with them being killed HUMANELY for food. So things like cows, chickens, deer, and other meat sources as long as it is done the correct way and not just treating animals like dirt then I understand it. I know that a lot of individuals say that animals that are butchered for meat are treated terribly before they are taken to be butchered but I live in a farming community and our best friends raise cattle and that is not always the case. His cows are treated very well. Another area that gets brought up when talking about animals rights is hunting or killing for sport. I don’t know if I agree with it for exotic animals because I think that is wrong but when it comes to deer and things around the midwest I don’t think people take into consideration that deer cause a lot of accidents for people and they eat a ton of farmers crops so it is in “the greater good” to make sure that the population stays lower otherwise it could cause a lot of issues. I think this that taking all creatures when considering the utilitarians believe of creating the most happiness has a lot of grey area.
